1. STUDENT TEACH ER COUNCIL (Academic Council)
It is an important administrative council of the college which includes two student representatives from each class, class incharges, Head of departments and teacher in charges with important portfolios such as controller of examination, training and placement officer, college overseer, librarian, NCC and NSS Officer, cultural and sports officer, student advisor of college chapter, PIO etc. This council is directly headed by Principal of the college. The meeting of the council is held at least once in each semester. All the important decisions related to students and their activities, their general and academic problems are deliberated frequently in the council and resolved in the interest of the institute and the students.
2.INTERNAL RATIONALIZATION COMMITTEE
To frequently check the performance record of teachers and students in the college, a committee known as Internal Rationalization Committee has been constituted by the Principal which meets at least two times in each semester, The members include.
(i) Principal of the college.
(ii) Sr. HOD
(iii) Controller of Examination.
Feedback is taken from the students regarding class submissions, periodical tests, Lab practical work, engineering drawing sheets and project work. If the progress of the related subjects is not according to time schedule and syllabi prescribed by the Punjab State Board, proper instructions are issued by the Committee accordingly.
3. PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA)
This body has been recently established in the college on the pattern of Govt. and Public schools to deal with the affairs of students. Local willing parents and guardians are enrolled in the body which includes Principal, concerned head of department, class incharges and members of anti-ragging and grievances committee. The body meets at least once in semester to discuss ways and means regarding progress and development of the college through external means.
4.ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Alumni of 70 years old ‘Mehr Chand Polytenchic College’ are its greatest asset. To apprise the students of their role in the development of the polytechnic college as well as to make the students, teachers and alumni feel proud of their ‘dream polytechnic’, an active Alumni Association has been established in the college. Many of our alumni are well placed in India and foreign countries. Mcpians have always made their almamater proud. Each hon’ble member of the association possesses some incredible value to the polytechnic college and dreams collectively towards the progress and development of the institute. As per the decision of the office bearers of the association, a nominal one time fee of Rs. Five Hundred only is charged from the students at the time of admission for enrolling them as members of Alumni Association (for SC/ST candidates only Rs. 250/- charged). College is organizing Platinum Jubilee on a grand scale in 2024 collaboration with Alumni Association.
5. BEST DEPARTMENT TROPHY
Lala Mehr Chand Best Department Trophy is awarded every year since 2011 to the Best Engineering Department showing all around brilliant performance in academics, sports, placement, cocurricular activities and extra curricular activities. In the year 2022-23 Department of Civil & Pharmacy jointly bagged the First Prize and Department of CSE and Automobile jointly bagged the Second Prize.
6. INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL
To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of the institution, an IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created in Mehr Chand Polytechnic College. Such a cell promotes measures for Institutional functioning towards quality enhancement through internalization of quality culture and carrying out of best practices. It is directly headed by Principal of the College.
7. FINISHING SCHOOL
Finishing School has been set up mainly for final year students that enphasizes training in all round personality development, cultural and social activities through expert talks and guest lectures. Specific skill sets are also imparted to the students as value addition. It is looked after by Training and Placement Cell.
8. Industry Day:
An Industry Day is an event organized by the respective department on every second Saturday by inviting experts from industry/ field to interact with the students on recent developments. Sometimes, field visits of students to related industry is also arranged.
9. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA):
Mehr Chand Polytechnic College Jalandhar is a participating institute to flagship programme – Unnat Bharat Abhiyan launched by M.H.R.D, Govt. of India with the co-ordination of llT Delhi with the aim to connect technical institutions with the local communities to address the development changes through awareness programs and appropriate technologies. Mehr Chand Polytechnic College Jalandhar was awarded letter of appreciation for doing remarkable activities under U BA during the year 2019-20.
10. Bharosa Shivir:
This camp of generally 2-3 days is organized at the institution level to develop Self Confidence and sense of belongingness in the academically weak students or slow learners. Experts are invited from various fields and backgrounds to address the students through games, lectures or organizing various competitions amongst them with the sole purpose to motivate them and bring them in the main stream at par with the good learners.
