Mehr Chand Polytechnic College, Jalandhar, recognized as one of the centres of excellence in technical education in the state of Punjab is one of the oldest and pioneering polytechnic college of North India. It was established in the year 1954 by the Stalwarts of D.A.V. movement in the sacred memory of Lala Mehr Chand Ji, an embodiment of self sacrifice, honesty and commitment. The first technical Institution of India situated in the heart of the city under the patronage of DAV College Management Committee, New Delhi, was aimed at changing the face of the old established industrial traditions by creating an effective technical manpower for the society and developing industry. Under the dynamic leadership of an eminent educationist Dr. Punam Suri, Padma Shree Awardee, President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, the Institute is scaling new heights and is committed to pursuing excellence along with creativity and integrity.
Mehr Chand Polytechnic College received “Best Polytechnic Award -2017” out of nine states in the Northern region. It was also awarded “Best Institute of North India’ in 2011, 2013 and 2020. It was declared as “Best Polytechnic of Punjab” by Praxis Media in the year 2020. It has also been granted status of ‘Community College’ by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
The Institution was selected for Institutional Capacity Building by British Council under UKIERI (United Kingdom India Education and Research Initiative) with Hackney Community College, London, as its training partner. Our college is member of Unnat Bharat Abhiayan theme of MHRD. Govt. of India and its was awarded special appreciation prize for its remarkable activities during the year 2020. We have devoted and dedicated staff of experienced, qualified and committed teachers, who spare no pains to help their students through affectionate approach, achieve excellence in academics, practical training, research oriented projects, extra curricular and co-curricular activities. With good infrastructure, lush green lawns, congenial environment, state of-the-art laboratories, huge library, smart classrooms, online teaching mechanism, canteen, book store, hostel, auditorium and other modern facilities like CNC Lab., the institute has emerged as the top ranking polytechnic of Northern India and its path breaking approach is being emulated by other institutions in India and abroad. Our students have made us proud by bagging 157 State Academic Positions in 2018-19 and along with highest number of Gold Medals in State Tech Fest (Overall Winner of State Tech Fest Trophy 2019) and have proved their deep rooted strength and mettle by securing highest ever placements in leading multinational and national companies on handsome pay packages.

I have also initiated Manthan activity comprising my personal talk with the students in small groups, in order to encourage and motivate them and to formulate a personal bondage with them to discuss and solve their genuine problems.
